About

The Artist Orchard.

It’s a blog about music, but not just any old music blog; It’s a blog for independent musicians.

Let’s face it; there’s hundreds of magazines and sites that have your album reviews and gig guides covered. I’m not aiming to be the next Pitchfork Media, because quite frankly, I don’t think the internet needs another music review site. They’re popular because we all love reading album reviews and getting tour info, but what about readers with an interest in starting a music career of their own?

The Artist Orchard will aim to inspire readers to open this doorway.

Media streaming has made it easier than ever before to share music with a potentially infinite audience, but there’s so much more to creating music than posting an MP3 online. I believe that it’s so important for musicians to connect to a network of likeminded people within their community, for these ‘artist alliances’ are what keeps the local music scene alive.

I hope this blog will inspire local artists to take the plunge to not only share their music, but also become actively involved within their local music scene. From songwriting, rehearsing, busking, recording, booking local venues, organising tours, meeting other bands and forming a fan-base, we’re going to delve into the underground world of what it is to be an independent musician.

Who am I? My name’s Cate Snedden and I’m a 20-year-old music lover originally from Perth, currently living in Melbourne and studying Journalism at La Trobe University. I have a love for local music (and owls) and am a singer/songwriter. This blog topic is close to my heart because myself and a number of my friends have always wanted to ‘do something’ with our music but have never known exactly where to begin! I hope we can learn and be inspired together.

I also hope to encourage a community within my blog following to serve as a network of support and feedback for each other as aspiring musicians. Each week I want to work towards an ‘Artist Highlight’ to share a local upcoming band.

I follow a number of local venues, review sites, bands and critics on my Twitter, so feel free to follow me!

So without further ado, I warmly welcome you to The Artist Orchard; A blog for aspiring musicians.

Stay tuned, literally! (I promise never to use that pun again…not really.)

Cate.

I told you I loved owls.
